Flesh and blood- (viewer beware!)

Richard is in Young Mens and therefore must help put up flags for certain holidays, such as the 24th of July. I love our country and I love our state and I love our flag, but I am very sad that my husband literally had to sacrifice his flesh and blood while doing flags yesterday. He was using his trailer hitch as a tamping tool and missed the target and came down with all his might on the rebar, only it ended up going straight into his hand. Can you believe this? He had to have 10 stitches on the inside of his hand (it was super deep) and 27 stitches on the outside! I almost threw up when he showed me. So nasty!

I make my lasagna with regatta

I took this picture from Richards phone and can't figure out how to get the whole thing on it. Sorry Landon, you got cut off, but I still love you.

Yes, I know it's ricotta. When Richard and I were first married I was in the kitchen making a lasagna. Richard peeked over my shoulder and said, "what are you doing?" To which I replied, "putting cottage cheese in the lasagna."
"No one puts cottage cheese in their lasagna" said he.
"Every one puts cottage cheese in their lasagna" said I.
"My mom doesn't" said he.
Death stare.
After that not so wise comment I proceeded to ask everyone if they used cottage cheese in their lasagna. And pretty much every one did. Even Stouffer's. I actually now have 2 recipes that I alternate, one with ricotta and one with cottage cheese. What do you use?

Anyway, lasagna isn't really the topic. Tonight was the Rain Gutter Regatta for scouts. Of course we waited until last night to make them. So hours before the event I was cursing the boats as I glued and did all the stuff that the kids can't do alone anyway. We read a few tips on the internet and I did most of the work. I was not happy about spending so much time on them this afternoon or about the loads of super glue that ended up on my hand. But Landon took 4th and Daniel took 3rd out of 21 boys! It was really good for Daniel to win. It was a single elimination and Daniel and Landon each got to race their boats 4 times, ultimately racing against each other for 3rd and 4th place! The leaders didn't really think the brackets through very well, but I think they could have taken 2nd and 3rd easy! It was a much better experience than the pinewood derby has ever been. Plus there is some actual skill in how you race your boat and how you blow it. I'm just happy they did so well. Pat, pat. (Patting myself on the back.)

We have an announcement

No, we are not having another baby, sillies. We got a dog! What? Some of you may be saying, because you remember my post about watching my brothers dog. But we didn't pick that dog and she was a spoiled little, barky, poopy thing. We told our kids last year that we'd get a dog this summer. This summer came upon us really fast and our kids reminded us of our promise. Landon spent days searching KSL and begging for this certain puppy. Long story short, Richard and Landon drove to Cove Fort last Saturday and picked up this little guy. He is an australian shepherd/lab mix and he will be an outside dog. We have not heard him bark or whimper once. He sleeps under our deck and has been great so far...knock on wood. We named him Rocky because he kind of looks like rocky road ice cream. It's hard to tell from the picture, but his eyes are blue and so darling! Here are some pictures of the newest addition to our family!

Catching up

I just added like 5 posts and somehow my Fish Lake post got thrown in the middle after I had done all the others. I can't figure out how to put it first on my blog, so don't miss the post- just go down a few posts! We had so much fun at Fish Lake!!

Birthday wishes

I had a wonderful birthday yesterday, and thank you for all the comments on facebook, calls, cards, etc. I really felt special and loved. I told Richard that all I really wanted was to have a few hours alone to go shopping and wander the mall and spend my birthday money. He was so wonderful and took half the day off to watch the kids so I could do just that! I had been looking forward to it for weeks and it was fabulous. What a treat! I shopped for 4 hours and probably could have gone for another 4, but ran out of money! I also had a friend take me to lunch and then Richard and I went to see a late showing of Eclipse! Yay! I just had to post this picture because Daniel was so sweet and made me this necklace and earrings out of aluminum foil. He thought I could put the foil through my ears, but I just hooked them on my other earrings. So cute, huh?

Fourth of July

On our way home from Fish Lake on the 3rd we stopped in Mt. Pleasant and went to the cabin with Richards family. We weren't sure if we'd make it there or not but we were glad it all worked out and we got to be with the McAllister family as well. On Monday we went to the annual Hague family 4th brunch, put on by my Grandma and Grandpa Hague. Fun times!

Fish Lake

We went to beautiful Fish Lake this year. It was truly bittersweet without my Mom there, but we really did have a wonderful time. It was hard to believe that the last time we were there she was too and we all missed her like crazy. My Dad was so wonderful and made our whole trip possible. I'll just let the pictures do the talking! Thanks for everything, Dad! Sorry for the picture overload, but I just couldn't narrow it down!

This guy deserved a spot on the blog- seriously! How does he even stand up?

We kept busy with games and baseball when the afternoon was too choppy to go out on the lake.
Landon got to ride to Fish Lake with Grandpa and keep him company and help unload. Landon said he was so glad he went with him- they had a great time!
